AFST 330* - Black Music Culture

3 Credit Hours
This course explores the development of music and music culture from Black communities around the world with a focus on North America, France, and Nigeria. This eclectic mix of cultural innovation and style resists definitions and energetically revises itself to remain wildly popular globally. Students will analyze the roots, key players, genres, and movements as they critically examine enduring controversies and the historical and sociological conditions that contributed to various forms.
