Healthcare Informatics Graduate Certificate

The Distance Education online inter-professional graduate certificate in Healthcare Informatics is for those from all disciplines with an interest in issues related to health and healthcare informatics and who meet the UTK Graduate School criteria for admission to graduate certificate programs. Course experiences will foster the examination and application of current health systems information management, analytics processing, and data mining techniques.
Student Learning Outcomes: At the completion of the Heathcare Informatics Graduate Certificate, students will be able to:
- Integrate key concepts of healthcare and information technology to improve patient care and healthcare delivery systems.
- Implement clinical informatics tools, advanced informatics techniques, and evidence-based practices to enhance clinical decision-making, patient outcomes, and healthcare systems efficiency.
- Critically evaluate the impact of emerging technologies on healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

Admissions Standards/Procedures
- Admitted to a UT Knoxville graduate program and in good academic standing OR hold a Master’s degree or higher.
- Submit an application to be formally admitted to the certificate through the Office of Graduate Admissions.
- Submit an essay addressing College of Nursing essay prompts.
- Provide 2 references from previous faculty, supervisors, or health care providers with a Master’s degree or higher.
Academic Standards
The College of Nursing will observe the following grading scale: A = 92 – 100 | 4 quality points | B+ = 88 – 91 | 3.3 quality points | B = 83 – 87 | 3 quality points | C+ = 78 – 82 | 2.3 quality points | C = 75 – 77 | 2 quality points | D = 67 – 74 | 1 quality point | F = 66 or below | 0 quality points |
