Pandemic Science Graduate Certificate

The Pandemic Science Graduate Certificate is being offered as part of the National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Center for Analysis and Prediction of Pandemic Expansion (APPEX). The increasing frequency and complexity of pandemic threats underscore the urgent need for a well-trained, multidisciplinary workforce in pandemic science. Pandemics are inherently multifaceted, involving factors ranging from biology and environmental science to public health policy and engineering. Traditional disciplinary approaches often fail to address the intersections that define pandemic dynamics, making a multidisciplinary approach essential. This certificate will enable students to acquire a unique systems-level perspective on pandemics, integrating insights from multiple disciplines.

The 12-credit hour graduate certificate is available to concurrently enrolled University of Tennessee graduate students from all disciplines and community members with an undergraduate degree in biological or health sciences. The certificate can be earned through synchronous and asynchronous, online courses for both Knoxville Campus and Distance Education students.

Certificate program coordinator: Kristen Mecke, Project Manager NIMBioS, kmecke@utk.edu. Home unit: Intercollegiate Comparative and Experimental Medicine
